Mr Stearne’s self-build is a 3-bedroom detached house located in Southampton.

The Project

After a two year battle with the planning department and two appeals Alan was successful in gaining permission to build a retirement home in the garden of his old house. A prime consideration was to make the new dwelling as energy efficient as possible with insulation to near Passivhaus standards and very low air leakage, in order to provide the necessary ventilation a whole house ventilation and heat recovery system from AllergyPlus was chosen.

Alan decided to install the system himself and opted for the comprehensive site support package offered by AllergyPlus to give him the necessary confidence to take on the work. After a year of living in the house Alan followed advice to have the system serviced and a visit from a skilled AllergyPlus technician was arranged and carried out, this included updating the software in the control unit, changing the filters and checking accessible ducting and registers points.
